Is there insurance coverage if you get sick before you travel?

If, before you travel, you suddenly get sick and therefore cannot travel, you are covered by the Travel Cancellation insurance. This coverage is also provided in case you are infected with Coronavirus.

Are you allowed to cancel a travel due to the possible risk of being infected with Coronavirus?

A potential risk does not constitute an insured event under the Travel Cancellation insurance plan.

You are afraid to travel. What applies regarding the Travel Cancellation insurance?

Travel Cancellation insurance covers you if, for example, you have to cancel your trip due to your sudden illness or the death of a member of your family according to its definition in the insurance terms of the plan you have chosen. Fear of getting sick (including coronavirus infection) is not considered as an insured event.

Does a previous illness change anything in this rule?

No.

What if you are quarantined before you travel?

If you are quarantined prior to your trip by order or other requirement of a government or public authority on the suspicion that you have been infected with coronavirus, you will be covered for cancellation if your insurance policy covers Cancellation.

Is Travel Cancellation insurance valid if the Competent Authorities of the country issue a travel warning for your travel destination prior to your trip?

The travel warning issued by the Competent Authorities is not an insured event. Contact your travel agent or travel provider for possible free cancellations or reservations by them (ie by your travel agent or provider). Recent updates - travel information can be found on the websites of the Competent Authorities of each country.

What if the authorities at your destination impose strict restrictions regarding security measures?

Cancellation due to strict restrictions regarding the security measures applying at your place of destination is not insured according to the Travel Cancellation insurance plan.

Are there any additional or refundable costs from your Trip covered if you have been quarantined abroad?

In case you are quarantined during the Trip by order or request of the respective country or public authority, based on the suspicion that you have been infected with Coronavirus, only the costs of the return from the travel are covered given that the return date is later than the one originally scheduled.

What is the insurance coverage in case of infection with Coronavirus?

If a Mondial Assistance Travel insurance policy has been issued, you are fully protected abroad. If during your trip abroad, you are infected with Coronavirus, the necessary treatment costs are covered by your above insurance. The terms of the insurance plan you have chosen, mention in detail the amounts of coverage of the individual provisions.

Can I cancel my travel insurance in case I do not travel?

You have the right to withdraw from a Travel Insurance policy (which does not include the additional Cancellation of Departure coverage), within fourteen (14) days from its issuance. If you have not submitted, nor are you going to submit valid claims, during the withdrawal period, your entire Premium will be refunded.

In case you purchase a Travel Insurance policy that includes the coverage "Travel Cancellation", it can not be canceled because the validity of this coverage starts from the date of issue and expires on the start date of your trip.

Our offer for you: Rebook a future trip with Insurance against its cancellation for the originally planned trip

Take advantage of the opportunity to postpone your trip to a later date. In this case, we will be happy to adjust your Insurance to the later date of your trip upon your notification. If you have purchased Travel Insurance for one year, you can travel as and when you wish within the insurance period of one year without the obligation to notify us.

Your benefit: The amount you have paid as a premium to your existing Insurance will be offset in part or in full by the Travel Insurance for your new trip, based on the information of the new trip (indicatively: destinations, trip duration). However, we only offer this option for trips that cannot be made on the originally scheduled dates due to the existing COVID 19 travel warning and the relevant entry restrictions. Please note that the new trip must be covered within 12 months of the cancellation of the first one (ie, the newly scheduled start of the trip must take place no later than one year after the receipt of the new rebook offer).

Does my one-year Travel Insurance apply to an unlimited number of trips?

We’re sorry that, at the moment, you cannot travel as often as you wish or have planned due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

One-year Travel Insurance offers insurance coverage for all trips that will be made during this period. One-year Travel Insurance is provided for business trips and for trips within Greece. Premiums are not based on the number of trips made during an insurance year.

After the end of the withdrawal period (lasting fourteen (14) days from the issuance of the insurance policy) during which you have the right to cancel the insurance policy with full reimbursement of the insurance premium, unfortunately, there is no possibility of modification of the contract duration or reimbursement of the premium due to the existing pandemic.

Before issuing a travel insurance policy, please read the general insurance terms as well as any additional information about the insurance product you are interested in, in order to make sure that the product meets your insurance needs.

Entry bans

Damage caused by government measures, including a ban on entering your country of destination, is not insured. Therefore, it is important to check whether entry to your country of destination is prohibited on the selected dates before issuing a travel insurance policy.

Travel warning

If the Competent Authorities issue a warning/instruction to your destination country before you travel, damage to these destinations is not insured. If you are already in your country of travel when you receive this warning, please refer to the insurance terms and specifically to the respective coverages and their validity/expiration. Before you travel, we recommend that you check if the Competent Authorities have confirmed such a travel warning on their official website.
